2nd ICDenTeMS (2024) serves as a scholarly platform bringing together experts, academics, and dental practitioners from around the world to exchange ideas and the latest knowledge in the field of dentistry. The conference will feature renowned speakers from various countries and exciting academic sessions. Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Trisakti Indonesia will held the 2nd ICDenTeMS (2024) conference in hybrid format, which means interested authors can participate in this conference either in-person or through online means.

This year heralds the second iteration of our esteemed International Conference in Dental Technology and Medical Sciences (2nd ICDenTeMs), slated for November 21-22, 2024, at Universitas Trisakti Faculty of Dentistry, employing a hybrid format to accommodate both physical and virtual participation.

The conference will showcase distinguished speakers from our sister University, imparting insights and updates on cutting-edge research within their respective domains.       Digital Integration in Dentistry: Advancing Collaborative Approaches

      Abstract

      Digital technologies are transforming the field of dentistry, enhancing collaboration across various specialties and improving patient outcomes. This presentation explores how digital tools, such as 3D imaging, CAD/CAM systems, and cloud-based software, are being integrated into dental practices to facilitate more efficient and precise interdisciplinary workflows. By leveraging these technologies, dental professionals can streamline communication, in mia treatmen planning on digide pegrain care o acor ill approaches among general dentists, specialists, and allied health professionals, ultimately advancing the standard of care in modern dentistry.

      Capt (R) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Haikal Muhamad Halil is a distinguished academic and clinician with a robust background in Restorative Dentistry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2006 and later pursued a Master’s in Restorative Dentistry from the prestigious University of Malaya, completing it in 2014. Currently, he serves as the Dean and an esteemed lecturer at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His commitment to education extends beyond IIUM, as he also contributes as a visiting lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at multiple institutions, sharing his expertise with a broader academic audience.

      Dr. Haikal is deeply involved in professional organizations at both national and international levels. His leadership was notably recognized when he served as the President of the Malaysian Endodontic Society, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the field of endodontics in Malaysia. As an active member of various professional bodies, he consistently engages in collaborative initiatives that enhance dental education and practice standards.

      Beyond his administrative and organizational roles, Dr. Haikal is a passionate educator dedicated to mentoring the next generation of dental professionals. His approach to teaching emphasizes not only technical excellence but also the ethical and holistic development of young dentists. His contributions to restorative dentistry, coupled with his leadership and commitment to advancing the field, make him a respected figure in dental academia and practice.

      AI-based models for assessing endodontic treatment outcomes

      Abstract

      The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into endodontic treatment is a promising trend that has the potential to revolutionize the field by improving diagnostic accuracy and enhancing treatment planning. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a deep learning-based segmentation model for predicting outcomes of non-surgical endodontic treatment. Preoperative and 3-year postoperative periapical radiographic images of each tooth from routine root canal treatments performed by endodontists from 2015 to 2021 were obtained retrospectively from Thammasat University hospital. Preoperative radiographic images of 1200 teeth with 3-year follow-up results (440 healed, 400 healing, and 360 disease) were collected. Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) was used to pixel-wise segment the root from other structures in the image and trained to predict class label into healed, healing and disease. Three endodontists annotated 1080 images used for model training, validation, and testing. The performance of the model was evaluated on a test set and also by comparison with the performance of clinicians (general practitioners and endodontists) with and without the help of the model on independent 120 images. The performance of the Mask R-CNN prediction model was high with the mean average precision (mAP) of 0.88 (95% CI 0.83-0.93) and area under the precision-recall curve of 0.91 (95% CI 0.88-0.94), 0.83 (95% CI  0.81-0.85), 0.91 (95% CI 0.90-0.92) on healed, healing and disease, respectively. The prediction metrics of general practitioners and endodontists significantly improved with the help of Mask R-CNN outperforming clinicians alone with mAP increasing from 0.75 (95% CI 0.72-0.78) to 0.84 (95% CI 0.81-0.87) and 0.88 (95% CI 0.85-0.91) to 0.92 (95% CI 0.89-0.95), respectively. In conclusion, deep learning-based segmentation model had the potential to predict non-surgical endodontic treatment outcomes from periapical radiographic images and were expected to aid in endodontic treatment.

      Abstract

       Implant Assisted Removable Partial Denture

      The results of the final prosthesis should be projected in the implant treatment planning stage before implant placement. To determine a treatment plan, various factors, including lip support, smile line characteristic, interocclusal space, inter-arch relationship, patient general health, and maintenance ability, etc should be considered. These intraoral and extraoral factors are important in determining whether the final prosthesis is a fixed or removable prosthesis.

      To decide the final prosthesis, the most representative factors are lip support due to horizontal bone loss and the change in interocclusal space due to vertical bone loss. These two factors are changes due to the loss of alveolar bone. In other words, when lip support or interocclusal space is appropriate due to small alveolar bone loss, a fixed prosthesis is preferred than a removable prosthesis, and when horizontal and vertical bone defects occur due to a large amount of alveolar bone loss, a removable treatment may be more advantageous than a fixed treatment.

      However, in clinical practice, the horizontal and vertical amount of alveolar bone is often different even within the same arch. In other words, it is a case in which the loss of alveolar bone is small in some area and the loss of alveolar bone is large in another area since it has been extracted for a long time. In the case of this mixed type bone loss, implant Assisted Removable Partial denture (IARPD) can be selectively used.

      IARPD has several advantages. 1) Reducing the loss of alveolar bone under the denture base, 2) increasing the retention 3) reducing the stress applied to the abutment teeth, 4) omitting the clasp, resulting in aesthetic effects, etc. In particular, IARPD is very advantageous in distal extension case such as Kennedy class I or II by reducing rotational movement by posterior implant support.

      For IARPD, many cases have not yet been published, and guidelines for design or clinical efficacy are not clear. Therefore, conventional partial denture design guidelines are also applied to IARPD. In this presentation, I will introduce various cases of IARPD treated in dental hospital.

      Abstract

      Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly revolutionizing various disciplines  of healthcare, including pediatric dentistry. The application of AI in pediatric dentistry holds immense potential for enhancing diagnostic accuracy, optimizing treatment planning, and improving patient outcomes. AI technologies, such as machine learning and deep learning algorithms, are being utilized to analyze radiographs, predict caries risk,development of teeth  and even assist in early diagnosis of oral pathologies. In addition to diagnostics and treatment planning, AI can be integrated into behavioral management, a key aspect of pediatric dentistry, by offering customised interventions to manage dental anxiety. AI supported platforms also offer  personalized preventive care strategies by assessing individual risk profiles and delivering customized oral health recommendations.

      However, challenges remain regarding the ethical use of AI, data privacy concerns, and the need for standardization in AI-driven diagnostic tools. Continued research and development are essential to  realize the benefits of AI in pediatric dentistry. This presentation  highlights the potential of AI to reshape pediatric dental care, offering a more efficient, personalized, and patient-centered approach while addressing the current limitations and future opportunities in this emerging field.
